attempted murder suspect this morning but he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. a man, 37-year-old scott foster a domestic violence suspect escaped from police on the stanford university campus he's back in custody. palo alto police him this morning near embarcadero road and el camino real. police initially arrested him 1:30 this morning in connection with the incident. he was handcuffed and in a police car, when he escaped. >> the palo alto police officer standing a perimeter in the area saw mr. foster walking out of the perimeter. thought he matched the description, observed he was wearing handcuffs, other officers responded and scott surrendered without incident. >> police warned people to lock their doors and windows while foster was loose. he's the son of a stanford employee and lives on campus he faces resisting arrest and

fleeing police officers. right now in the north bay, police are looking for two inmates who escaped from the sonoma county jail in santa rosa. a spokesman says a 42-year-old and a 22-year-old went over the security fence around 9:30 last night. they were serving sentences for drug and alcohol violations. the men are considered dangerous. if you have information on their whereabouts, you are asked to call the . san jose firefighters put out a fire at an -- a complex half an hour ago. flames coming from the build on auburn way near i-280 and saratoga avenue the fire broke out after 9:00 this morning. the first crews called for extra help. investigators believe the fire started in a storm unit. -- in a storage unit on the patio. nobody was hurt, the fire drove residents from two apartments.

two major san francisco teachers unions signed off on tentative contract agreement. the agreement brings the school year back up to 179 1/2 days. it has been 176 days for the past two years. if ratified all employees would take 1 1/2 furlough days. the unions agreed to add furlough days if voters don't pass either of the proposed initiatives in november to help fund schools. reoccurring commuter problem came to a head this morning for people trying to travel between san francisco and vallejo on the water. terry mcsweeney in san francisco with what happened. >>reporter: the folks who go from vallejo to san francisco in the morning via ferry say there is a problem too often. this morning there was a problem and another problem and they were just flipping out. take a look at viewer video from the vallejo ferry

terminal. the ferry vallejo broke down after making a 7 a.m. run, had to go out of service. management calls two bus lines to bring commuters to the city. the folks at the san francisco bay ferry couldn't find buses to make that happen. there was no way if get here by sea. nowhere to get here by land. some commuters were ticked off. >> you can't always count on it being here. like this morning they didn't even back-up s we had to wait -- back-ups abouts we had to wait another hour, frustrating there's no stability with this ferry. >> over the last several months they've only had three bets available to do a three-boat service their back-up is undergoing refurbishment. right now operating three boats without the back-up. >> reporter: the san francisco bay ferry took over control a month ago from the city of vallejo this is a new

experience for that management. a management team that is promising to get that back-up boat back to better precautionary maintenance, preventive maintenance on the boats, better bus bridge back-up plan the one today didn't work and this fall they will have a website to provide commuters with better information on the status of the ferry and information that can be sent to you via text or e-mail about your specific time, your specific ferry, your specific direction. things are going to get better. problems, no doubt about. a new management team says it is coming up with new solutions. terry mcsweeney, abc7 news. attention cyclists! bart is rolling out an experiment that could make your commute more convenient. amy hollyfield is live in berkeley with how this will work. >> reporter: more convenient for cyclists, but it could cause an inconvenience for bart riders.

that's what bart will be testing. can bikes and riders co-exist on the train? check out this bart train carrying people into san francisco from the east bay before 8:00 this morning. now imagine adding bikes to the mix. >> some mornings it is very crowded not enough room for people to stan. then when you have a lot of bikes squeezed on definitely not going to be enough room to ride or stafpbltd >> reporter: right now bikes are banned from bart during the morning and afternoon commute hours there. are stations where people can park their bikes before boarding the trains. some say they skip bart all together because of the ban with >> i don't know why bart doesn't have a train just for bikes. what is the point of having a great transit system when people who want to bike can't? >> reporter: bart officials realize the bike ban makes the commute tough for bicyclists. they are going to try an

than three dozen homes. we'll keep you updated. this just coming in as i speak. abc news has learned a psychiatrist treating james holmes had concerns about him several weeks before the massacre outside of denver. our sister station discovered dr. lynn fenton treated holmes while he attended graduate school at the university of colorado. she shared her concerns with other members of the school's threat assessment team. that team did not take action because holmes withdrew from the ph.d program in june. experts say his exit should have been a red flag. >> i think that's the signal you should intensify efforts, not walk way under those circumstances, most well trained threat assessment teams would have gone into action. >> the university chancellor says he believes the school did everything it should have. the white house says kofi

found in 1998 in santa cruz. she was 14-years-old and dived old age. she leaves a nice legacy. health warning for swimmers east bay regional park district says the level of coliform bacteria in the water at shadow cliffs in pleasanton exceeds state health levels but not enough to close recreation. swimmers are being told to not swallow the water and take a shower and dry off thoroughly after their swim. a spokeswoman says it is not unusual to have high readings during hot summer periods. be careful out there, but swim at your own risk. definitely a popular place especially with temperatures so hot. nice to see you today. >> you time good morning. sunshine already rolling through the bay inland. tracking cooling trend and possibility of a thunderstorm

killed eight people and injured more than 50. destroyed more than three dozen homes. a neighborhood more than ive to this situation. a two inch plastic pipe ruptured, neighborhood is being evacuated people can hear and smell gas. another update as we get new information. a santa barbara man has a story to tell after he clung to a hillside two days and two nights before being rescued. larry bishop became stranded on a tough to climb mountain east of fresno. an experienced hiker but he took a wrong turn and go stuck. on the second day his body started to slide down the cliff. he thought he was going to die. he started writing a good-bye note to his family. >> i basically hoped i had the stamina and the determination to bear the pain and hang on.

another update on breaking news in san bruno this is from sky 7 hd residents are being evacuated after a construction crew pierced a natural gas pipeline, gas is escaping. residents tell us they can hear the hissing sound. the san bruno fire department believes a construction crew working this morning before 11, hit that pipe and caused the leak at glen view drive and earl he have -- earl avenue.
